What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that means charities can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give.

Example

Using Gift Aid for your donation will increase the amount SignHealth receives, at no extra cost to you.

graphic post demonstrating you donate £5 + giftaid = £6.25 SignHealth receives

£5 + Gift Aid = SignHealth receives £6.25

£10 + Gift Aid = SignHealth receives £12.50

£20 + Gift Aid = SignHealth receives £25.

You can Gift Aid if:

  • You’re a UK taxpayer
  • The money you donate belongs to you
  • You are not getting any reward for your donation (e.g. a raffle or ticket).

It does not cost you anything to sign up to Gift Aid. This is because as a UK taxpayer, you have already paid tax on the money you are donating. Once we receive your donation, we get the 25p for every £1 sent to us from HMRC.

The amount of tax you pay needs to be at least equal or more than the value of gift aid, in order for your donations to qualify. For example, for a donation of £10, you must have paid at least £2.50 in income or capital gains tax in order for us to claim the gift aid amount of £2.50 in the same tax year.

If you no longer pay enough tax, you must let us know, otherwise you will need to pay the difference back to HMRC.
