Whatever distance you walk in July, you can track your progress in a variety of different ways.
An app on your phone is a great way to track your steps and record walking distances, times and routes on a visual map for your friends and family to see. Below are a few examples:
Strava
Fitbit (there is no need to own a wearable FitBit)
Map My Walk
Footpath Route Planner
Challenge ideas
If you work from home why not start a fake commute before your working day begins, or at the end of your day.
If you have a dog, that’s a great start to get you out walking everyday.
Walk to explore, venture to new areas or find some different trails.
Get off your bus or train 1 stop earlier and walk the rest of the way.
Challenge yourself to walk 5,000 steps a day and then build it up to 10,000!
Save petrol and the environment and walk instead!
Socialise – catch up with a friend or family member on your walk – face to face or via FaceTime (but watch where you are going!)
Post a walking selfie everyday for 30 days! – which is also a great way to attract more donations.
If you don’t want to take on the 30 day challenge, that’s fine, you can walk as little or as much as you want. You could set yourself a distance or count steps to achieve within the 30 days instead. You could arrange a group walk one weekend with your friends and family at a national park or maybe by the sea! It’s up to you.
Fundraising tips
Take a daily selfie of you on your walk and post on your social media to attract more donations.
Don’t be frightened or shy to share your fundraising page with work colleagues, friends or family! Let them know you are taking part in a walking challenge and you would appreciate their support.
Why not get your friends and family involved, they can help spread the word and get more people involved!
Create some fun videos on your walks to post to your social media accounts, people will look forward to watching them and it will encourage people to donate.
