Job advert for Participation Team Leader in BSL

About the role

SignHealth is a passionate and unique deaf-led charity, committed to creating a future where there are no barriers to good health and wellbeing for deaf people.

Are you an expert at working with and advocating for young people?

Can you lead a team to implement a new way of working with younger audiences at SignHealth?

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making sure our work is informed, influenced and shaped by children and young people in a meaningful way.

You should be comfortable working with and importantly, involving, young people in your work. You will need to be knowledgeable about good participation principles and have a good understanding of safeguarding plus safe and effective event processes. You will be responsible to deliver the participation approach to our strategic direction.

We are looking for someone who is confident working on their own initiative as well as part of a team. We are keen to see applicants with lived experience of deafness and an understanding of what it is like to be deaf navigating day to day life. We would like to see a demonstrable track record of working with young people in an inclusive way that enables young people from diverse and marginalised communities to take part.

You will be responsible for overseeing our Young People Advisory Board and ensuring best practice is used across our organisation in ensuring deaf young people have a say in decisions that impact them.

Come and make a difference in our deaf led, BSL proud organisation!

A high proportion of your work will be performed from home. Our team is spread out across the UK, so we welcome your application – wherever you are based. You will be required to attend meetings and events outside of your home. There will be regular evening and weekend work too.

Whilst our team is remote, we find ways to connect and collaborate through virtual meetings and co-working. You can expect weekly check-in meetings with colleagues, regular in-person team meetings and lots of opportunities to connect with other members of the team through your day-to-day work. Approximately five YAB weekends within 18 months and 1 to 2 online evening sessions also occasional stall events across the country.
