Statement from Sabina Iqbal, SignHealth Chair:

We would like to announce that James Watson-O’Neill is to step down as Chief Executive of SignHealth, the deaf health charity, after eight years in the post.

James will be moving on to Sense as their new Chief Executive, a wonderful opportunity.

On behalf of the board and all our staff at SignHealth, I’d like to express our grateful thanks to James for the huge impact he has achieved for SignHealth over the years.  His impact includes breaking down barriers to wellbeing for deaf people, building new partnerships, winning national contracts for domestic abuse and therapy, influencing the NHS at a strategic level, steering the charity through challenging times including the Covid pandemic and cost-of-living crisis.  Today SignHealth supports even more deaf people with their health needs as James’ inspirational leadership has boosted our huge growth in the services we offer

On behalf of the Board and everyone who works for SignHealth, we give grateful thanks and wish James all the very best in his exciting new role.

James says “I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved during my time at SignHealth. The charity has grown significantly and I have been lucky to work with very talented colleagues that I will really miss. There is still a lot of work to do to eliminate the health inequality that we experience as deaf people but I know that, together, deaf people and our allies can achieve equality. After I leave SignHealth in the new year, I’ll be cheering you all on for many years to come.”

James will leave at the end of January 2025 and SignHealth’s Board will shortly be launching recruitment for a new Chief Executive.
