Workshops

Part 1 – AIS
yellow heartbeat line
  • What is the AIS?
  • What are your rights as a deaf patient, parent or carer?

Deaf people are dying due to poor healthcare.

Understanding the Accessible Information Standard gives us the confidence to advocate for our communication needs.

We also want to find out more about your experiences accessing NHS services.

Part 2 – Where is our access?
  • How to influence local health services
  • How to make a complaint

This session will cover what to do if your communication needs are not met. This will include how to give good and bad feedback to health services.

We will also have a chance to practice and learn how to influence the NHS.

Intro to Deaf Health Forums
  • What is a Deaf Health Forum?
  • How does it work?
  • Who should be involved?

SignHealth would like to introduce and support Deaf Health Forums to be set up across the UK.

These groups can influence the NHS, inform local services of the issues and create lasting change for access to services for deaf people.

Mental health awareness and self-care
  • How to spot signs of poor mental health
  • Where to go for support
  • Ideas for self-care and improving your mental health
