Silent Steps
‘SignHealth offers a range of services, but mental health and domestic abuse are so important; this affects and moves me, so I wanted to fundraise and give back; to serve the deaf community, who I cherish.’
– Avril
Avril Langard-Tang will be the first Deaf female to walk from John O’Groats, Scotland to Land’s End, Cornwall!
She sets off on 1 May 2026 and will take her 8-10 weeks to complete the 1,000 miles.
That means she’ll be walking around 15-20 miles every day for two months! We are so happy to announce that Avril is supporting SignHealth as part of this incredible challenge.

Watch to see why Avril is taking on this challenge!
Doing the challenge is going to cost money. Avril’s expenses include food, equipment and fuel for the support vehicle. Her support vehicle is a motorhome so she can save money on expenses.
In total, Avril’s expenses will be around £5,000 – that’s £71 per day.
But Avril wants to keep her costs low and raise as much as possible because she is donating all profits from the challenge to SignHealth. She is walking the length of the country to remove barriers to healthcare for deaf people!
How will the money work?

Avril has SignHealth’s permission to fundraise but she is doing all of the fundraising independently. She has secured her own sponsors and donations. SignHealth is not running this challenge – it is all Avril! But we will be cheering her on along the way!
If you want to support Avril on this epic journey, you can follow her social media @silentsteps26 on Instagram and Facebook. Here, she posts exciting updates, dates, and locations where you can meet her along her route.
We are so grateful that Avril has decided to donate the leftover money to SignHealth as part of this amazing challenge. Her determination and passion are helping raise awareness of the barriers deaf people face and the work still needed to break them down.
