Norovirus is often called the winter vomiting bug, and it’s the most common stomach bug in the UK. It’s most common during the winter, but you can still catch it at any time of the year. The virus is highly contagious and can affect anyone of any age, causing vomiting and diarrhoea.
Symptoms usually show up between 12 and 48 hours after you are infected and you may pass the infection on to other people during the time you are symptomatic.
The first sign is usually suddenly feeling sick, followed by forceful vomiting and watery diarrhoea.
