October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. SignHealth and Deaf Cancer Support UK are working together to share information and signpost to screenings and support available in British Sign Language (BSL).
Please help us share the information with your friends, family and networks.

Did you know?
Deaf people often experience more barriers to getting the screenings, information, support and treatment that could improve outcomes for cancer patients.
Men can get breast cancer too. It’s rare but important to recognise!
Checking your breasts for any unusual changes can help discover breast cancer early. It’s important to recognise when something’s not right.
The NHS offers breast screening because it can save lives. The screening can find signs of cancer at an early stage, when the cancer is too small for you to feel or see. Finding breast cancer early means that your treatment may be simpler and is more likely to be effective. The NHS invites all women to have their first breast screening between the ages of 50 and 53. Then you will be invited every 3 years until you turn 71.
What’s next?
Contact your GP if you would like to book a breast screening. You can use our template letter to ensure they know your communication needs and provide an interpreter or other communication support.
