Course overview
This course is essential for ensuring that we effectively reach and support victims who are deaf or have hearing loss. It aims to dismantle the barriers that prevent victims from receiving a comprehensive multi-agency response, thereby enhancing their safety and support.
Collaboration with SafeLives
We are partnering with SafeLives to develop specialist training informed by the lived experiences of deaf victims. This collaboration will educate practitioners on the unique risk factors faced by deaf victims and equip them with the knowledge to create effective safety plans using appropriate responses to risk.
Course objectives
- Effective safety planning: ensure all practitioners are proficient in safety planning tailored to the specific needs of deaf victims.
- Bridge gaps: focus on bridging the gaps between victims and services to remove barriers and improve accessibility.
- Intersectionality: address the needs of survivors who face additional disadvantages, such as those from Black, Asian, and racially minoritised communities, LGBTQI+ communities, and others with sight loss.
Accreditation
The course is accredited by the Open College Network (OCN) at Level 3 and is worth 1 Credit.
Time commitment
The course is one day online via zoom. In-course assessment comprised of observation and test of knowledge. To receive the accreditation, all learners must complete an on-line assessment following the course. The duration of the Question and Answer exercise will be approximately 30 minutes.
Eligibility
You must be working with victims of domestic abuse to complete this course (preferably a qualified IDVA).
Price
This course is £60 per learner (subsidised by Ministry of Justice funding).
